Kia ora Whānau
What a great start to the term we have had! Gymnastics, Ka Puāwai, Reading tents, Editing glasses and good times :)
The emergency drills went well on Shake Out day (15th October). The children were well prepared and calm. I was very impressed with the way they took the practice seriously.

Gymnatics
Abe from Big Air Gym took Nīkau through their first Gymnastics session on Tuesday. The children were well dressed for gymnastic success - including some serious gymnasts in their leotards! I was keen to take more pictures of gym in action, but it was such a busy time I didn't get a chance.

What's on the Telly?
Thanks to Robert, who set up the wonderful TV Hana made for us on some legs. Now we can watch the news hands free :) The TV helps children listening to Pānui to focus on the speaker. It is also helpful for those who feel a little shy to 'get into character' and act confident as they deliver their news. It is also lots of fun!
Rainbow of Language
We have been revising the Māori kupu for Ngā Tae (words for colours). We talked about the languages that are special to us and have made a list of these. The plan is to have a giant rainbow in the class filled with butterflies. On the butterfly wings there will be the words for colours in different languages. If you are able to help with any language that is spoken at your place we would appreciate it. Thanks
Looking Carefully
Thanks so much to the Embassy theatre for giving us a whole stack of used 3D glasses. The lens have been popped out to ensure the children's eyes are damaged. Did you know wearing 3D glasses in the sunshine can be damaging to your eyes? Our plan is to use these glasses to help us to look closely at our writing. They are going to be elegant editing glasses. We popped them on while we designed ways to zhoosh up the frames.
Star Student
Our Star Student this week inspired us with his writing and public speaking abilities. In the holidays, Toby spoke at his Grandfather's book launch and had the crowd enthralled. He shared a character description he had written, which delighted an entertained those in attendance. Since the launch, Toby has a renewed enthusiasm for reading and writing and sharing this with others. Well done, Toby.
